The Hellenic Initiative – THI announces a new grant, of $ 10.000 to Ithaca Laundry. This donation will see The Hellenic Initiative indirectly supporting the living conditions of the homeless at the city of Athens. To this day, Ithaca has benefited over 1000 people living on the street.
Ithaca was launched by 4 young Athenians that decided to create a mobile laundry unit to provide homeless people with clean clothing. Having accomplished 3000 washes until now, Ithaca Laundry has managed to deliver 18 tons of clean clothes for displaced citizens.
Ithaca’s vision is to restore the self-esteem and dignity of people facing vagrancy and more importantly to create new opportunities for them.
The grant of THI will allow Ithaca to welcome an additional member to its team, whose responsibilities will include fundraising. Through its cooperation with THI, Ithaca will have the opportunity to grow and present its services in new locations and help more people. Moreover, through the help of THI, Ithaca aims at the creation of new strategic partnerships and fundraising which will expand their operations.
Michael Printzos, Program Director of THI, stated: “The grant to Ithaca is a testimony of THI’s continued commitment to empower vulnerable groups that have been heavily impacted by the crisis. THI strives to promote organizations like Ithaca, who improve the lives of hundreds of people on a daily basis, offering tangible results. Ideas such as Ithaca’s provide much-needed solutions to real life problems that our country is faced with”.
