Kea Hara Center
November 9, 2017
Kea Hara Center for Individuals with Special Needs is providing exceptional care to children and adults that suffer from mental problems and disabilities, Down Syndrome and Autism. The aim is to ensure their quality of life in a healthy and pleasant environment and make their lives more functional. The children’s and adult’s everyday routine, features creative activities organized as a part of an educational program, designed to help them develop their abilities to the full by exposing them continuously to new experiences. It is currently offering hospitality to 57 children and adults.
One of them is Kostas, hosted at the center since 2011. His diagnosis is a psychotic syndrome-mental retardation. Kostas is a cheerful, spontaneous, accessible man and willing to communicate. He is impulsive in new acquaintances and in many cases he reaches the point of not following the compatible forms of a social relationship. He has reason (speech) and thought but when he feels pressure, the content of his ideas may be unclear and frustrating.
Kostas needed professionals to build his inner world so that his confusion and chaos wouldn’t overwhelm him.
Thanks to The Hellenic Initiative‘s support, Kostas received the help he needed through a team of qualified scientists to develop his social skills.
